In the run up to Chris Coco and Ben Osborne playing the first post lockdown gig together today, Sunday 25 April, here’s a remix Ben made of Chris’ 2005 track , Memory of A Free Party.
The track retains parts of the spoken word vocal and a reverse sitar from the original, with Ben replaying bass and guitar, Simon Burwell playing keyboard and James Thompson doing beats. The remix is based around a glam guitar line recorded into a portable mini cassette player. Intended originally as an aide memoire, the distortion on the recording became the foundation of the remix.
When Chris heard it he said: “It’s like having a new song.”
It came out for a nano second in 2005.
Today’s event marks 15 years since Ben and Chris played the launch events forNoise of Art in partnership withThe Tate and BFI Southbank in London on the last week of April and first week of May 2006.
